Facility Management

For over 17 years Facility Management (FM) has been the only Australian publication dedicated exclusively to the facilities management industry.

Published bimonthly, FM is a truly independent publication. Its editorial is tailored to meet the needs of readers – not the vested interests of industry associations. As a result, FM is firmly established as the magazine of first choice for marketing products and services to the purchasing decision-makers responsible for the management of all aspects of the built environment.

Current Issue!

Welcome to the February-March 10 issue of Facility Management, Australia’s premier independent publication servicing the information needs of facility managers and allied professionals in the property maintenance sector.

In this issue we present the following important features: Fire Safety, Facades, Outsourced Services, and OHS.

Fire Safety
Facility managers have a responsibility to minimise the risks of fire in their buildings. Distinguished fire-fighter Graeme Thom urges all FMs to maintain rigorous equipment testing and maintenance procedures, and to preempt the direct needs of fire-fighters in an emergency.

Facades
Work is underway to construct the first major high-rise office tower in Sydney at 1 Bligh Street, featuring a full ‘double-skin’ facade, i.e two separate layers of glazing. This super-insulated, highly automated facade system is sure to become a model for local energy-efficient buildings of the future.

Outsourced Services
If you need reliable, certified and properly trained contractors for activities like cleaning and security, your first port of call should be the Building Service Contractors Association of Australia (BSCAA), which has an extensive membership of professional contractors across Australia. Association president Rodney Barnes outlines the benefits to facility managers of dealing with BSCAA experts.

OHS
New legislation is about to change the way occupational health and safety (OHS) is observed and practised in Australia. Allan Alderson offers a detailed account of the history of this legally complex issue, and speculates about the practicalities of harmonising historically fragmented state/territory jurisdictions.

And much, much more!
