Excellent article, thank you for briging some of these issues to light. I wish more employers would pay attention to this and adapt. The major savings are not by taking people's partitions away but using the space efficiently such as not giving execs such big offices especially if they are never in there and on the road a lot.

Tom your commpany has a great noise solution but not a good solution for privacy for each employee and reduction of visual noise. Your solution can definitely be used with high partitions though.

Cheers, Rob.

I must agree with the post by John Clohessy. Enviroclean Australia use Citrus Resources products and practice "Green Cleaning" for some eleven years.

We have just branched into Victoria and have encountered what we would call a "cultural shock" Our government has allowed many ethnic groups to take hold of the market and drive prices down so far that it is beyond belief. I am seeing evidence of cleaning companies quoting less than $20.00 per hour and paying staff $12.50 per hour round the clock. This is not just going on in small offices either this is going on in major gambling venues and office sizes varying.

We are still encountering in Brisbane "one cloth cleaning" toilets, kitchen and phones all with the same cloth.

The industry needs to be policed like the pest control industry in NSW... Department of Agriculture and Fisheries are on top of anyone doing the wrong thing and the same needs to be in place with the cleaning industry.

To the question "Do we need Green Cleaning accreditation) The answer is yes, do we need policing and random inspections of what is really going on out there.. Yes. Will it ever happen, more than likely not as with the oil companies. Change will never take place where money is the driver...

Parachute - ha! The psuedo-scientific BAL system of AS3959 pretends to be a parachute, but it is really a big wet blanket.
The code is a knee-jerk reaction to a freak fire in Victoria, and hasn't been properly thought out, tested, planned, phased in or supported. And the home-owner has to pay for the builders, councils and RFS fumbling their way along in the dark.

I have become caught in the flame zone (no pun intended). I want to build a 20m2 shed and my land has been classed as FZ. No prior check by the shed supplier and his plan submitter so I paid over $1000 to them to submit plans. Just over $1000 to Blue Mtns Council to accept plans. RFS then says FZ construction. All for a small shed. Apparently if it was 10 metres from the house there would be no issue. I am 6m from the house. The plan submitter was doing the bare minimum, ie photocopying.. Why didn't he check bushfire rating prior to submitting plans? Have beeen told windows cannot open. No advice re garage door. Everyone seems to do the minimum and things proceed at a snail's pace and meanwhile I shell out more money with no end in sight. I have frustratingly withdrawn my application to BMCC. Am looking at Promatect40 and Firefly with a view to a carport.

I'd advise anyone building a fire rated home to download the Standards and read them with their plans in hand. There's a lot of ambiguity in there (eg: lots of "or" and "except" etc etc) which adds to confusion -- but if you can cite parts of the document to justify your decisions, you're probably in a better position than your surveyor or Council. Trust me, it's worth the effort!
