    Hi Martin,
I continue to read your articles with interest and having been associated with Facilities management on and off for a number of years, agree with your views on profesionalisation for Facilities roles.
However, it has also been my observations that the Industry is either Managed or owned by those personnel who have essentially, a Real Estate background. The Technical and Engineering apsects of Facilities Management are therefore not so much in the forefront of their knowledge base or seemingly, their management style.
Perhaps that is why, as you point out, there is reluctance to adopt professionally accredited training. It is an age old problem which I have also observed over my working career, knowledge is power! Less knowledge, the less powerfull light you may be seen in. A pity, as that managment style is very immature.
    Regards, Roger Hayes

Whilst I agree FM should be viewed academically, there are manny of us who have created the pathway for this field to exist and have delveloped the strategic and commercial links that demostrate the impact of facilities management. I think banks, utilities, healthcare and various other industries are very clear and employ FM’s accordingly. The structures have become very streamlined by the property departments and we do have a voice on the balance sheet given the level of budgets we manage. I understand the pitch coming from a trainer in this area, however the structure/content proposed would need considerable refinement and to include industry thought leaders feedback. Also there are manny types of FM’s eg: corporate/strategy/governance/procurement, trade, engineering, IT specialist and industrial. The market is very diverse and courses would need to be relevant to encourage attendance.

I have noted the comments made -particularly from Lisa- and in my view what we have is a starting point in what you appear to want to do .
In the climate that we all operate in we need to be diverse and be ready to adapt to meet the challenges of doing business today
