2 Dec 2010 - Green Buildings Alive is an online information portal that effectively puts big commercial buildings on the analysts couch.
By delving under buildings’ façades, Green Buildings Alive can diagnose problems with efficiency and find solutions, ultimately to benefit the whole building industry. The approach is novel because until now this information has been guarded by companies, or not collected in this way.

595 Collins Street Melbourne uses around half the energy compared to the portfolio average, thanks to active property management.
This new website features thousands of points of data on energy, water, emissions, waste and tenant complaints from over 50 buildings. They are presented in a ‘datalyzer’ – a fully public, number-crunching engine that uncovers the behaviours of real buildings. Anyone in the world can see what is happening, for example, when the weather heats up or when buildings are less than full.
A recent insight asks whether big or small buildings are likely to be greener, with some surprising results. Green Buildings Alive was created by the Investa Sustainability Institute. Currently in version 1, it invites more organisations to release more data, for the ultimate benefit of better-performing buildings.
