9 May 2011 – Many thanks to all the readers who entered Facility Management’s Apr-May 2011 reader competition, which featured prizes of three OutbackCam™ portable video and camera recorders, courtesy of Swann Security. And the winners are…
Our Apr-May 2011 reader competition certainly attracted great interest, with scores of readers taking the time to lodge an entry. For the record, the correct answer to our question ‘What does a security camera offer?’ was (c), both of these options [i.e. (a) property protection and (b) peace of mind].
The OutbackCam, valued at $249.95 RRP, is a rugged, portable, outdoor surveillance camera in a weatherproof case. Each unit houses a 2 megapixel camera and DVR, ideal for recording video and images in outdoor locations – from the remotest rural storage facility to inner-urban offices, school grounds, vehicle entrances, etc.
Congratulations to our three winners:
(1) Neville Faulks, bursar, Girton Grammar School, Bendigo, Victoria
(2) Bob Cameron, security supervisor, The University of Adelaide, South Australia
(3) John Griffith, facilities services manager, Brisbane Facilities, QBuild, Queensland.
The OutbackCam is capable of capturing crystal clear still images or videos in colour during the day or B&W at night. Recording is triggered either by motion detection or a pre-scheduled date/time that is activated via the internal menu.
Users can choose whether they want to record AVI videos or JPEG still pictures. Night vision is made possible thanks to 15 infrared LEDs, capable of capturing images up to 10 metres away. All surveillance footage is stored on SD card. The OutbackCam comes complete with a 2GB SD card but is capable of handling a 32GB SD card. A 2GB card can record 3700 high-resolution (1600×1200) images or eighty 15-second (640×480) video files.
Each camera and can be mounted to trees, posts or flat surfaces (with supplied strap) and is available through Dick Smith and other leading consumer electronics retailers.
