World Workplace 2010 Conference & Expo

23 September 2010 – Held in Atlanta from 27-29 October 2010, the IFMA World Workplace 2010 Conference & Expo will feature more than 75 educational sessions addressing the performance and safety of workplaces.

Each year IFMA (International Facility Management Association) conducts a three-day educational and networking conference. This year’s program will feature conference sessions covering topics including sustainable initiative incorporation, executive leadership in hard times, energy management, security and more, and will feature presentations from representatives of Coca-Cola, Cornell University, Duke Clinical Research Institute, IBM, and the US Environmental Protection Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigation, among others.
World Workplace 2010 educational sessions will be held Thursday, 28 October, and Friday, 29 October, in Atlanta’s Georgia World Congress Center. Sessions will follow 12 educational tracks, including traditional tracks such as Benchmarking & Best Practices, Sustainability, and Trends & Innovation, and four new tracks being introduced this year. Conference attendees can earn continuing education units for each session they attend.
With so many organisations responding to environmental concerns and the economic downturn by implementing or enhancing a sustainability program, one of this year’s new tracks will be How-to Guides, developed around the IFMA Foundation’s Sustainability How-to Guide Series. The track will feature eight different sessions, including the introductory session, “IFMA and Sustainability – Past, Present and Future,” presented by Eric Teicholz, IFMA Fellow, president of Graphic Systems and executive editor of the guides.
“The sustainability guide presentations provide practical information on how to implement and measure energy savings in the built environment. Each session covers a different component of energy — such as how to get started, improving efficiency of water usage and lighting, comparing existing rating systems, using energy retro-commissioning, implementing ENERGY STAR® and more,” says Teicholz. “The sessions will present successful case studies, suggest best practices, instruct attendees on how to implement energy initiatives, and teach them how to develop a business case and ROI analysis.”
World Workplace will feature more than a dozen sessions on sustainability. Other sessions will cover topics including demystifying green product standards, retro-greening buildings, energy benchmarking in facility management and sustainability in the public sector.
Because executive leadership matters most in difficult times, this year also marks the debut of IFMA’s Executive Management educational track, featuring sessions designed with the experienced built environment professional in mind.
Additional World Workplace educational sessions will cover a variety of topics, including adapting facilities for climate change, working with commercial real estate brokers and approaching building security from every angle.
