4 December 09 - WSP Lincolne Scott, with Brookfield Multiplex and ARUP, has taken out a national Australian Engineering Excellence Award for the Macquarie Bank Building, One Shelley Street, at King Street Wharf in Sydney.
The building at One Shelley Street has been described as a ‘striking combination of form, function and sustainability’ - readers may recall that we profiled this project in the June-July 09 issue of Facility Management.
The award was announced at a gala dinner on Wednesday the 25th of November at the Great Hall of Parliament House in Canberra, Australia.
According to Ché Wall, managing director of WSP Lincolne Scott, “One Shelley Street demonstrates another step forward in our understanding of how environmental design and building services should meet the needs of environmental conservation whilst at the same time promoting health and well being for those who use the buildings. In this respect, the project is another bold statement that is already gaining international recognition. We are extremely proud of our contribution to One Shelley Street and delighted to see it recognised in the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards.”
One Shelley Street has achieved a 6 Star Green Star Design rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, indicating its world-leading status in terms of environmentally sustainable design and setting new benchmarks in environmental and workplace functionality. A range of innovative solutions, such as Australia’s first use of passive chilled beams with Sydney Harbour water for heat rejection, have been fundamental to the environmental sustainability of the project and also to occupant health and productivity. The project’s innovative workplace solution is also supported by one of the most intensive wi-fi environments in the world.
WSP Lincolne Scott and its specialist brands, Advanced Environmental and Vision Design, provided an integrated service to both the base building and the Macquarie Bank fitout, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, fire protection and audio visual, lighting and environmentally sustainable design (ESD) for the base building, and mechanical, electrical, audio visual, lighting and ESD for the fitout.
The 35,000m² 11-storey building comprises one level of retail at ground level and ten levels of A-grade commercial office space.
